EMERGENCIES

Orthodontic treatment normally goes smoothly, but occasionally, emergencies occur. Our office is here for you if you have an orthodontic emergency. Go over the common orthodontic emergencies so you will know when to call.

DISCOMFORT

Some discomfort can occur when undergoing orthodontic treatment. This soreness typically goes away within a day or two after your visit. Patients can alleviate the discomfort with over-the-counter pain relievers. Call our office for addition information.

LOOSE WIRE

Braces are durable, but sometimes, wires come loose. A loose wire may poke you, making eating and talking uncomfortable. You can ease the discomfort by placing wax on the end of the wire. Then, use tweezers to attempt to reposition the wire. You will also need to contact our office to have your braces repaired.

LOOSE OR BROKEN BRACKETS

Eating hard foods can cause a bracket to loosen or break. If the loose bracket causes discomfort, cover it in wax. If it falls out, wrap it in a tissue to bring to your appointment. Then call the orthodontist. You will likely need to go in before your next scheduled appointment to get the bracket repaired or replaced.

TRAUMA

If you experience any trauma while undergoing orthodontic treatment, you need fast attention. Contact our orthodontic office immediately or go to the nearest emergency room. Fast action is recommended in cases of trauma.
